LG Moves to Deepen Nigeria-South Korea Ties Through Technology

LG Electronics has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening economic and cultural relations between Nigeria and South Korea, highlighting technology and innovation as key drivers of closer cooperation between the two countries.

The company made the commitment at the Republic of Korea’s National Day celebration in Abuja, where it showcased its latest consumer technology products and smart living solutions.

The event, organised by the South Korean Embassy under the theme, “One Heaven. One Earth. One Humanity,” brought together government officials, diplomats, business leaders and development partners to celebrate bilateral relations and explore opportunities for deeper cooperation.

At the exhibition, LG displayed a range of products, including premium OLED televisions, soundbars, xboom audio systems, artificial intelligence-powered home appliances and smart living technologies designed to improve convenience, connectivity and energy efficiency.

Guests also had the opportunity to interact with the products and experience how emerging technologies could improve everyday living.

Speaking at the event, LG Electronics Managing Director, Hyoung Ji, said technology was most valuable when it delivered practical benefits and improved people’s daily experiences.

“Technology is most meaningful when it creates positive experiences for people. What made this event special was seeing guests engage openly, ask questions and discover how innovation can address everyday challenges,” he said.

Ji added that LG, as a Korean brand with a longstanding presence in Nigeria, remained committed to providing solutions that improve living standards while strengthening connections between both countries.

The South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Jeong Yo-an, also emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration, identifying innovation, human capital development and strategic partnerships as essential to achieving sustainable growth.

He cited companies such as LG Electronics as examples of how Korean businesses could strengthen bilateral relations by translating technological advancements into practical solutions, particularly in home appliances and energy-efficient products.

Representing Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the ministry’s Chief of Protocol, Ambassador Babagana Wakil, called for stronger cooperation between the two countries in industrial manufacturing, technology transfer, agriculture, education and maritime development.

Wakil said practical partnerships in these sectors could promote economic growth, encourage knowledge exchange and create opportunities for businesses and citizens in both countries.

The celebration also featured Korean cuisine, traditional performances and Taekwondo demonstrations, providing guests with opportunities to experience South Korean culture.

Participants also highlighted the growing popularity of Korean culture in Nigeria and the expanding global influence of Nigeria’s creative industries as opportunities to strengthen people-to-people relations.

LG said its participation reflected the important role private-sector companies could play in advancing international partnerships through technology, innovation and shared experiences.

South Korea’s National Foundation Day commemorates the traditional founding of the Korean nation and its founding ideals, including the aspiration to benefit humanity.

The Abuja celebration provided an opportunity for both countries to reaffirm their shared interests and explore ways to deepen cooperation across technology, trade, education and culture.
