South African mobile technology startup Mission Mobile has secured up to ZAR500 million ($30.1m) in funding from investment holding company DN Invest (DNI) to help mobile network operators expand their customer base.
The funding will enable the startup to scale its business model, extend access to smartphones and affordable connectivity, and develop additional solutions for mobile network operators.
Founded in 2023 by Johannesburg-born brothers Tim and Adam Strike, Mission Mobile develops technology designed to help network operators strengthen customer relationships while enabling subscribers to get more value from their mobile spending.
According to Tim Strike, co-founder and chief executive officer of Mission Mobile, more than 80 per cent of mobile connections in South Africa remain on prepaid plans, leaving many customers unable to afford traditional mobile contracts.
He said customers often use multiple SIM cards without remaining committed to a particular network, making it difficult for operators to build lasting relationships and secure consistent revenue.
To address the challenge, the startup developed Beam, a proprietary technology platform that analyses customers’ earning and spending patterns rather than relying solely on conventional financial assessments.
The platform helps identify customers who could benefit from smartphone financing offers but might otherwise be excluded by traditional providers.

Mission Mobile has integrated the technology into a business model that delivers smartphone offers through mobile network operators’ retail outlets.
Strike said the approach allows network providers to reach customers who might previously have been underserved while encouraging them to remain active on the same SIM card.
He added that the model could help operators improve customer loyalty, strengthen engagement and generate more predictable long-term value.
Meanwhile, Mick Silke, chief executive officer of DNI’s financial services business, said the investment was driven by the opportunity to help mobile network operators reach more customers while improving access to connectivity.
He said Mission Mobile’s founders had identified a market opportunity and developed technology to enable operators to serve a wider population.
Silke added that the company’s potential to deliver commercial returns while helping consumers obtain greater value from their spending aligned with DNI’s investment interests.
The funding is expected to support Mission Mobile’s expansion and the development of additional offerings for mobile network operators.
