Swift Telephone Network Limited has obtained a Unified Access Service Licence from the Nigerian Communications Commission, clearing the way for the company to begin operations in Nigeria’s telecommunications market.
STN announced the development in a statement, saying the licence allows it to provide telecommunications services including voice, data and access services across the country, subject to regulatory requirements.
The company said the licence marks its transition from a telephone call service operating under an umbrella structure to an independent telecommunications operator.
Chief Executive Officer of STN, Oluwole Adetuyi, said the company would focus on developing telecommunications infrastructure and expanding access to digital services.
“This UASL is not just a licence. It is a new chapter. It represents where we started, what we have endured, how we have evolved, and where we are going. We are building in Nigeria, for Nigeria,” Adetuyi said.
STN said its plans include infrastructure deployment, skills development and partnerships with Nigerian service providers and contractors, as well as collaboration with international technology companies.
The company said the partnerships would support the development of local technical capacity and increase participation by Nigerian businesses in the telecommunications value chain.

It also plans to create employment and business opportunities in areas including distribution, retail and support services as it expands its operations.
“Our ambition is simple: to help build Nigeria’s digital economy from the ground up,” Adetuyi said.
He added that the licence would provide the platform for the company’s expansion, while local talent and partnerships would support its operations.
STN said it would roll out telecommunications infrastructure as part of its plans to expand access to communication services and address gaps in connectivity.
The company’s Director of Legal and Regulatory Services, Yetunde Okafor, said STN would announce details of its strategic partnerships, infrastructure rollout plans and programmes for investors and other stakeholders in the coming weeks.
Okafor said the company had evolved from its initial telephone call service into a UASL-licensed telecommunications operator.
The NCC’s Unified Access Service Licence permits operators to provide telecommunications services, including fixed and mobile voice and data services, in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
